🇵🇹 CIPLE A2 Exam Centers in Portugal

Portugal is the home of the CIPLE, and you can sit the exam at CAPLE centers in cities across the country as an alternative to testing abroad.

Portugal has more CAPLE exam centers than any other country, from Braga in the north down to Faro, and out to Madeira and the Azores. That makes it reasonable to assume you can sit the CIPLE A2 near wherever you have settled. In the session CAPLE has published, most of those centers are not listing it, and the ones that are may be nowhere near you. This page says which, and when it was checked.

Which Portuguese centers are listing the CIPLE A2

Portugal has 16 CAPLE exam centers. The number currently listing a CIPLE A2 sitting is 4.

That is the number most people are surprised by, and it is the reason this page exists. Having a CAPLE center in your city is not the same as being able to sit the CIPLE A2 there.

Several of the centers not listed for the CIPLE A2 this session do run it in others, so if one of them is your local center it is worth contacting directly as well as watching the listing.

If you have just moved here

A lot of people arrive at the CIPLE A2 the same way. You settle somewhere, you get the paperwork moving, and the language certificate turns out to be the piece with the longest lead time on it.

The mistake worth avoiding is planning around your own city. Registration windows open for the whole network at once, seats at the centers actually running the exam go quickly, and by the time you have established that your local center is not one of them, the ones that are may already be full.

Being in Portugal helps here in a way it does not for candidates abroad. Getting to another city for a morning is a train ticket rather than a flight, so the practical question is usually when a seat appears rather than whether you can reach it.

When there is nothing listed at all

CAPLE's registration pages show no date available far more often than people expect, and that is usually a phase rather than an ending. Between January and August 2026 we watched 157 sittings go unavailable before their registration deadline. 140 of them came back, and half of those gaps lasted under 25 hours.

What we have never seen is a sitting become bookable after its deadline had passed. So waiting is reasonable up to that date and pointless after it. The full method, the sample size and the limits those figures carry are on what CAPLE's "no date available" actually means.
